The Deerwood Music Composers

George BayleyOrganist George Bayley has been an organist/choirmaster and composer for many years. He presently is organist and director of music at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes, Delaware where he directs a choir of 40 singers and manages the church's concert series.

A native of Massachusetts, George Bayley received his musical education at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he majored in organ with Dr. Carl McKinley and studied Liturgical Music with Dr. Everett Titcomb, earning his Mus. B., Honors with Distinction.

Bayley subsequently earned his M. Mus. At the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor where he studied organ with Professor Robert Clark and Choral Conducting with Professor Thomas Hilbish.

Before becoming organist and director of music at St. Peter’s in May 2000, George Bayley served churches and cathedrals in Albany, New York; Newport News, Virginia; and Jacksonville, Florida. He also served on the faculties of Christopher Newport University in Newport News and Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida where he taught Organ, Church Music, and Music History.

Bayley has made frequent concert appearances throughout the eastern seaboard as well as in Alabama, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. Each summer, he exchanges positions with an organist from the British Isles. He has played many organ recitals throughout Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England.

In recent years, George Bayley has become more active as a choral composer. His compositions are sung in major churches of the USA as well as in cathedrals and parish churches of the United Kingdom.

Roo BrownRoo Brown is presently based in Delaware where she has retired from an active career as an actress, song stylist and composer in New York. She is a graduate of Smith College where she majored in music. She studied composition with Alvin Etler and jazz improvisation with John Mehegan at Juilliard. Roo has acted in Off Broadway musical comedies, starring in A…My Name Is Alice, and A…My Name is Still Alice. For many years she was a member of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop under the direction of Lehman Engel and Maury Yeston. She has composed, directed and arranged for vocal groups since high school. Her music for the stage can be seen in Music Theatre International's When the Cookie Crumbles and her song, "You Will Be With Us", has just been released on Jersey Transit's Magic Moments CD. Her "Never Gone", was performed in 2004 at the Smith College Memorial Service. Roo's sacred works have been sung in Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and England.

Christopher PutnamChristopher Putnam, a graduate student in Liturgics at Berkeley Divinity School in California, formerly was Canon Musician at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. He has many compositions and arrangements to his credit. He has just joined Deerwood Music.
