Celebrate Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany

Our newest publication is Celebrate Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, released in 2010. This collection of fifty anthems and forty hymns for all choirs and churches includes the plan for four different celebrations of the seasons: 1. A dual plan for Lessons and Carols for Advent, one of which complies with the directives in the Book of Occasional Services for the Episcopal Church, and the other, in the tradition of the original form of the service as it was established in England; 2. The outline for the traditional Lessons and Carols for Christmas. 3. A modified plan for Lessons and Carols for Epiphany. 4. “A Meditation On the Nativity of Christ.” Meditation includes readings from the poems of the 19th century Scottish poet George MacDonald, the contemporary poet J. Barrie Shepherd, Jacopone da Todi in a translation adapted from the Latin, and the Brazilian poet Domingos Carvalho Da Silva in a translation from the Portuguese by Richard O’Connell. This service provides a contemporary alternative to the first three. The plans for these services are written out clearly. All four can be presented as entirely congregational services, services with choir and congregation, and services sung entirely by the choir. The music is written so that it can be accompanied easily by organ, piano, or other instruments.

Though the music suggestions for the services in this book refer only to selections in this volume, clergy and musicians should feel free to use appropriate music from other sources.
